Are you talking about the maid? Because if you are then OH MY FUCKING GOD. The first picture is from Gone with the Wind and the second one is from The Help which takes place IN THE EARLY 60s. Guess what was taking place? The Civil Rights Movement. Being a maid was a job a lot of African-American women had. Gone With the Wind takes place during the American Civil War, which happened from 1861-1865. The Emancipation Proclamation made slavery illegal in 13 states, then the thirteenth amendment made it illegal everywhere in 1865. So yes, the slaves were freed, but a lot of them didn’t know where to go and some simply stayed with the families that owned them and worked as help. The Help is about how maids got mistreated in the homes they worked for, so I’m not sure what the point of this post was? And if you’re talking about the somewhat stereotypical portrayal of an uneducated black woman, a lot of black people did not have education because the couldn’t afford it or were not allowed to go to school at all. I assume the lady is supposed to be in her 40s, therefore when she was school going age it would have been the 30s-40s. There were some institutions that allowed black people to come of ones specifically made for black people, but I think I read it was either hard to get in or cost a lot?
I don’t assume you were talking about the little girl
